Welcome!
Here you'll find all of my past/ongoing work,
my education and some of my proejcts. Also I love frogs.
Born and raised in Ecuador, passionate about code and astrophyiscs
I graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honors Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics under the Specialist program. During my studies, I developed a well-rounded foundation as a researcher, gaining extensive experience in computational, theoretical, and instrumental astrophysics.
In addition to my astrophysics background, my degree equipped me with highly sought-after skills for entry-level data science roles. I became proficient in several programming languages, including object-oriented languages like Python and declarative ones such as SQL. I have also developed and implemented complex pipelines, modeling routines, machine learning algorithms, and AI programs using Python.
Optical Transient Type II and Type Ia Supernova
This project began as a summer fellowship with the Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics and later became the focus of my thesis for my HBSc degree. The intriguing phenomenon under study has been shown to be a rare occurrence in core-collapse supernovae. A manuscript is currently in preparation.
I've also worked on the systematic analysis of the early multi-band light curves and colors of 19 Type Ia Supernovae.
Advance Data Analytics
I've always been passionate about learning, thus I enrolled myself in Google's course on Advance Data Analytics. In this program I explored industry standard procedures for EDA practices, building and implementing statistical tests, assembling and interpreting regression modelsm, and using machine learning methods as well as their evaluation metrics to uncover the hidden stories in data.
Mathematics - Physics - Statistics
I've been teaching concepts such as math and physics for over two years for various private tutoring companies. I've primarily worked with highschool students and university students, however, in my latest instructing position at Mathnasium I find myself working with all ages ranging from 1st grade to 12th grade. As the lead instructor of this institution I manage the learning plans of each student and train other instructors in teaching techniques and behaviour management.
Here are a couple of skills I belive are my strongest and that I have the most years of experience in.
I've worked with Python for a very long time and I am well aquainted with a vast amount of libraries.
Aside from all the visualization libraries from Python such as Matplotlib, Seaborn and Plotly. I am also very experience with Tableau, so I can create composite dashboards and stories.
I am still an active member of the Korean Supernova Program, and I contribute towards the team efforts of triggering observations, spectrum reductions, and writting proposals for telescopes.
I've worked with SQL to query and process large datasets. I am also very experienced with the pandas Python library for performing data engineering.
Statistics played a big role in my astrophysics degree, research and machine learning courses. Since then I've continued to study Bayesian statistics and furthered my understanding in this subject.
Part of being a well rounded researcher is the ability to clearly convey the narrative of ones discoveries. Furthermore, my years as a private tutor have vastly improved my comunication skills.
